I think people also just don't *care* anymore. We went camping last week, and I booked us an outdoor table for dinner. Arrived and the restaurant tried to put us inside, "Sure it's a grand big table". We refused, but 3 of the other families we were with went on in.
I keep saying that we've largely been a victim of our own success. We did so well at locking down and crushing cases that a huge number of people have avoided being personally and traumatically effected by it, and it's become a less tangible and frightening thing, nonchalance creeps in.
It baffles me though that the UK just don't seem to care, when so many people there did have close tragedy and illness in their families from it.
