As a pedant for the English language, I find it all very challenging.

I had a mate who once insisted on them/their as his pronouns. He's reasoning was that he's a result of "vanishing twin syndrome", so he basically absorbed his unborn sister in the womb.

A few months later he insisted on being addressed as a he-male-man, but queer, if asked.

A lot of people do find this sort of thing, while not wanting to be disrespectful, a bit of tiresome attention seeking. This guy identified as "queer" because he liked his (cis female) girlfriend strapping on a dildo. Not entirely sure what she thought of it. But I guess this person was just doing all he could to shock us, without realising that we don't really care, we liked him as a person.
