Heya,

just wondering if anyone can suggest a good broadband provider, just want it for home so don't need anything special for business.

thanks

well, if they manage to survive the next couple of weeks, smart are undoubtedly the best.

they've upgraded their standard package to 6mb, no cap, free line rental and cheap calls, all for 35 a month

good time to hold off and see what happens between all the providers in the next few weeks, and keep an eye on the broadband threads over on boards.ie

have never had problems with ntl, no cap/fast line. Pain in the arse now though because i think i have moved to the one place in the country that doesnt have tinternet of any kind other than dialup. theres broadband 5 min down the road and 5 min up the road...swines

Seconded. Have it about 6 months now and no problems at all. The installation guy even supplied me with a wireless router and other kit for no extra charge (well, I got a free installation, first 3 months free deal anyway).

Ah, there are a few places in the country like that. My brother-in-law spends a fortune on dial up because he can't live without Everquest :D

Smarts 3mb increase across the board is just til the end of the year but if they survive they are def the best/cheapest and no cap either.
I am struggling with 8mb/512 up at the moment

get out of my house

ah no. it's just the DSL that I (STILL!) can't get. stupid distance from exchange limits.

What's the speed of ripwave? A mate of mine in Fizbrit is looking for cheap net access for "moderate domestic use" (I'd normally say, "What porn?" - but I know his wife - Yowza!). IBB's products and pricing page is blocked by websense. Sheesh!

He's tempted by BT. But they don't seem to have any contention ratio's or other shite advertised. And I don't like them.

And their Caps are gick too.

They are meant to be terrible, also has your m8 who wants it got a good line of sight to their mast?

Def wouldn't touch it for Gaming etc

Hmm NTL don't provide to my area at the moment Sandycove (Dun laoghaire). I'm weary of Smart and Eircom don't seem great. what about clearwire anyone know anything about them?

utter shit. avoid. i had it for far too long, half the time it didnt work at all, and when it did work it was slower than dial-up. clearwire is rubbish as well, completely inconsistant. its not as bad as IBB ripwave, but thats certainly not a recommendation.

Okay so can anyone suggest a good wireless provider.

did anyone here who use smart for broadband have to change their home number?
we got in touch with them at the start of the summer and were told we'd have to change our home phone number in order to avail of the free line rental.
does that still stand cause doesnt seem worth it.

I've been with Imagine for over a year now and I've found it great.
It's 9.99 for the basic ADSL package 1mB down / 128Kb up but we normally get twice that for some reason.
The upload speed is a pain if you're ftp'ing stuff though.
Only a couple of days downtime in total so far and that was due to our phoneline getting wrecked in a storm.

I use Imagine as well, never had a problem.
