Never heard of this happening.
A few small things were sent to me by UK senders who never filled in any customs forms and I was never asked to pay anything and the things arrived quickly.

But I also had to pay customs twice on a CD boxset off Discogs - on purchase and to An Post.
I try to avoid ordering stuff from outside EU.
