Bass amps (1 Viewer)

Question about these mysterious items.
Is a 30w bass amp good enough for small gigs, jamming etc?

Maybe for a Jam

gigs would be debatable - like if there is front of house and DI to the desk then it's up to the bassist on wether they find the monitoring from it sufficient. If it's standalone i don't think it'd do great

depends on size of gig and how noisy the rest of the crew are.

in a previous band the bassist used to have an ancient laney 50W which we found abandoned in the studio. did practice and small gigs admirably, but despite having an animal of a drummer in terms of loudness, I was only using a 50W solid state guitar amp.

obs if you're being mic'd you'll be grand

How many watts does one of these yokes have?

No. Unless you have zero interest in low end/low mids. Lowest you can get away with is 50 Watts all Valve. Solid State I'd want at least 200 but it really depends on the construction style. Like I'd get away with a HH 100 Watt head. Cabs are also very important with bass. Better cabs can get away with lower powered heads.
