A britpop boxset...with no blur or oasis ? (2 Viewers)

i'm happy that Rialto song made the cut, although it's hardly britpop

It's funny, but if you say 'name some Britpop bands' to most people, Oasis Blur and Pulp will come up pretty often. What's the connection? Obviously this is because NME, Select etc; decreed it so but the fact is that none of those bands had any relation to each other whatsoever. Three different sounds, three different cities, backgrounds. Most scenes and genres are pretty redundant when you peel back the layers but Britpop doesn't even count. It never existed. Look again at the bands on those cds, most of them from all over the place both geographically and stylistically. The only glue that holds a lot of them together is the fact that they existed at the same time. A collection of some genuinely talented British bands, mixed with some of the most god awful guitar bands of the last twenty years. There's a core group in there - the likes of Shed Seven, Ocean Colour Scene and Cast that I would lump together is some way - revisionist retro indie crud? Anyone? See there we go again, square peg, round peg. This is all just my opinion of course, but I just remember the whole period as an excuse for rubbish bands to wave the Union Jack or embrace their local town mentality and have a go! Which is fine, if you're any good that is...

British music is the best because they gave the world The Beatles and the Kinks. England for Euro '96 because it's their devine right to win it. Jo Guest. Frank Skinner. It's coming home, it's coming home, music's coming home. Who are ya? Who are ya? Great days, every teeth gritting moment of it.

I'd really like a Britrock Boxset

3 Colours Red and Terrorvision... they remind me of reheated having mashed potato with lumpy bits, beans and maybe a pork chop for dinner, on a Tuesday.

Basically all these bands are what caused Kerrang to become really really bad. Up until then they still had decent interviews with Sepultura and Pantera.

shut up metaller. Go back to listening to Coal Chamber

here, where do King Adora fit into this? Terrible band but a few good songs

You cant mention Jo Guest without Kathy Lloyd...

I was only 11 or so when she'd be in Match magazine wearing just the new Liverpool shirt... those are the sort of pics that made you realise theres more out there than football and Nintendo!

I always thought Trash was one of Suede's worst singles.

There is some OCS on this album. Grand so.

Duffy is Stephen 'Tintin' Duffy, founder member of Duran Duran, who went on to be Duffy and something else.

My opinon, for free:

Mansun – 'Wide Open Space' Not too bad, singer was annoying

I still listen to mansun all the time. Bloody great band.

theaudience – 'A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed' Tried to be the smiths. Failed
They weren't that bad. I had that single and it had loads of deadly b-sides that were much better than most of their album.

Rialto – 'Monday Morning 5:19' Can't remember it
Deadly song. I believe the lead singer was in some glam/manics style band originally?

Hurricane #1 – 'Step Into My World' Okay-sh
jesus no

Spearmint – 'Sweeping The Nation' ?
more bratpop, lead singer looked like Michael J Fox

Earl Brutus were like a poor mans Flaming Lips.
Onstage they had traffic cones and one of those spinny signs that are outside petrol stations that say two things.

Cant think why they didnt pick S*M*A*S*H's second single "Lady Love your C*nt"

CAST...ginger annoying twat

Boo Radleys...fuck off Boo(unreleased)

Echobelly...Sonya oral madam..i would

marion... better than a lot of the shite today
