Drop out, wait till you're 23, do the dole for a year, snaffle up the many grants and take your pick of colleges (within reason). You don't even have to show your leaving results. You have 5 years to think up a good personal statement, do some voluntary work, get relevant experience, live. And, when you finally enter college as a mature student - you'll be 150% excellenter than your fellow students.

That's considering the situation stays the same, and who knows what will have changed in five years? War? Cimate change? Alien invasion? Sudden evolutionary leaps? The war with the machines? The second coming of our lord and saviour Jesus Christ? Zombie holocaust? Reccesion? Dinosaurs? Total protonic reversal?

im glad i went to college straight from school but when you get to 23 that seems like the best idea ever.

not sure how true all that is. i had a professor tell me before he gets 100's of applications every year from mature students who did just that, pissed about for 5 years and expected to waltz into a degree. the question was asked if you didnt do well enough in the leaving, what makes you think your able for a 4 year degree? you really have to do relevant things in the 5 years as you said. just sayin is all. plus, its pretty hard to go back to being broke after 4-5 years of working.

and some of the best/worst riding and drugs experiences are done while attending college.

attending - student actually enrolled in the college but just showing up for sign in and the fecking off for the day down the pub or in your mates gaff smoking your brains out. this doesnt apply to non learners who just hang around the college. thats a bit sad really .|..|

Yeah I wouldn't seriously recommend this as a long term plan. It happened to slot nicely into place for me, which is lucky considering I repeated the leaving cert and did worse second time around. I suppose the moral of the story is that if you messed up badly like I did, don't worry too much because there may be other ways of going about your life outside of the one convential A-B route you hear about in school.

p.s. you can cover most of the important/worthwhile stuff they cover in Arts by reading a few books in the evening anyway and you'll probably end up enjoying it more.
