The Smile, it was boring as fuck

I went to see Prāta Vētra in the Warehouse at the Red Cow last night.

They're probably the most famous Latvian contemporary pop/rock band ever (obs I went with the missus).

I wouldn't be that much into them but it was a very joyous occasion. Everyone there, pretty much, was Latvian and I guess for those few hours they felt like they were home.

Musically they are a very upbeat band and seem like thoroughly decent people.

Overall it was the best gig I've ever been to for a band I don't much like.

PS what a shit venue the warehouse is.

Was at an Irish/Welsh folk gig in the black box in TU Dublin this evening. My wife had spotted that cerys hafana was on the bill and wanted to see her - she's fantastic. Plays a big triple harp.

Saw Cattle Decapitation in Academy on Thursday. Mixed bag tbh, with hit and miss supports. Felt pretty old, up on the balcony, looking at the youngsters giving it socks in the pit.

Friday saw Judas priest in point. They were on form, as were Saxon who I know in passing, but not very well. Met up with friends hadn't seen in far too long, so good buzz all round

Saw someone on Twitter saying around 1/3 of the audience left during the show? Lots of empty seats in any of the clips I saw

I was in row K on the left and there were a good few seats in my line of sight where people never turned up (including the seat in front of me, which was a result as I had a clear view of the stage). It being on a Monday night probably didn't help! Don't know what was going on behind me, but any time anyone got up to go the toilet it might have looked like there was a load of people leaving as everyone on the row had to stand to let them pass, mexican wave style. I wouldn't be at all surprised with people leaving though, it was a sonic assault, I definitely saw someone in front of me struggling with all the smoke coming out of the fog machines too.

I'm assuming they had to head to get the last bus home. Because we stayed and missed ours.

I was in row B in the centre. Got blown away. Don’t think I’ve ever seen them do more than an hour before, we certainly got our money’s worth last night.

Also, Jesse Sykes was brilliant. Never expected to see her live.

Every single song of hers started in one key then, second chord shifted to a major thing. Every bloody tune
The same. Seemed like the guitar and bass players wanted to have fun but she seemed like zero crack.
