Finally watched this tonight. Amazing. I loved it. Mind boggling that it got such a poor release (a week at a Dublin cinema, VHS, and a screening in C4) and was all but forgotten about.

As the writer/director himself says on the extra features it's more folk tale than folk horror, and all the better for it.
