True Detective Season 2 (2 Viewers)

A lot of people basing theories on meaningful looks in this thread. Maybe the so called meaningful looks were actually the actors looking at each other in disbelief at the poxy dialogue they had to sell.

Ah Bernie why are you throwing this season under the bus now?
Did you lose your heart for it somewhere along the way?

I don't know him. I had never heard of Fukanaga before season one either so....
He’s a young director who works mainly in the horror and crime genres. His last film was Cold in July, which was an 80’s set crime flick influenced by stuff like Blood Simple, Cape Fear, Red Rock West, The Hot Spot. He’s good with genre stuff.

Heard it's shite.
Why don't we make a recommended movie watch list based on True Detective 2? Or just list a bunch of noir's to check out. Or something?
I’d recommend any of the following neo-noir films

Marshland

After Dark My Sweet

One False Move

Body Heat

Strange Days
Night Moves

Barton Fink

Killer Joe

The Man Who Wasn’t There

To Live and Die in LA

Angel Heart

A History of Violence

Miami Blues

House of Games

After Hours

Nightcrawler

Marshland

After Dark My Sweet

One False Move

Body Heat

Strange Days

Night Moves

Barton Fink

Killer Joe

The Man Who Wasn’t There

To Live and Die in LA

Angel Heart

A History of Violence

Miami Blues

House of Games

After Hours

Nightcrawler

I've seen the ones in bold. Have James Woods movie Cop to watch, might do that this evening. Saw an Ed Harris/Benicio Del toro movie recently - China Moon I think it was called, was quite alright. Also saw some of a Roy Scheider neo noir, Night Game. Again was ok, not great but had a few good things going for it, although only saw half of that though.

I'm gonna throw Fletch in there. Watched it recently while eating my dinner and fucking loved it despite not being wild on it in the past.

Old noir:

Dark Passage

Kiss Me Deadly

Neo:

Cutter's Way - although like Night Moves it kind of lost me in the middle.

LA Confidential - stating the obvious

Cutter’s Way is a real gem of a film. Didn’t put LA Confidential on there because I assumed anyone who likes films has seen it. Same with Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive etc.

Blue Ruin is another good recent one.

Marshland is hilarious.

"SWEAR TO GOD IT'S A COINCIDENCE IT'S THE VERY SAME STORY AS TRUE DETECTIVE 1"

although I preferred it meself

At Close Range

Rush

Devil in a Blue Dress

Deliverance

The Last Seduction

A Simple Plan

Kill Me Again

Bound

Dressed to Kill

Blow Out
Shit I was thinking about putting At Close Range and a few De Palmas down but wasn't sure if they were noir's or thrillers. FUck it. Thriller/Noir what's the difference?

Good paranoid movies:
Dr. Strangelove
8 Days in May
All The Presidents Men
Parralax View
Zodiac
