Album Of The Year 2013 (5 Viewers)

Irish Times' Ticket music writers Top lists of 2013. The biggest list in the world EVER – The Ticket music writers’ Best Of 2013 lists | On The Record

Most of their top album lists feature Lisa O'Neill. Her voice makes me want to stick knitting needles into my ears.

I like her voice. It's unusual. And I've liked the stuff I've heard by her. Might pick up her album later.

I don't understand the fuss over Matthew E White. Maybe I need to listen to it again but it bored the bejaysus out of me. Sounds like a poor man's lambchop to me.

That Julia Holter album's great.
So is the Shugo Tokumaru one. Some great stuff on that

Ok here it is. Now that the Ticket lists are out I can reveal my best Irish Times music hacks of 2013 list. Strong showing from Maleney. No contest really. Those at the bottom half of the list are really going to have to try and up their game for next year.

1. Ian Maleney
2. Aoife Barry
3. Jim Carroll
4. Ailbhe Malone
5. Tony-Clayton Lea
6. Una Mullally
7. Lauren Murphy
8. Brian Boyd

As someone who isn't generally much into drone music or 'soundscapes' Ian Malaney's taste means nothing to me. Louise Bruton is definitely their best reviewer and she's not even on the list.

Are you sure her reviews came out in 2013? Maybe she peaked in late 2012 and that's why she didn't make my list ...

Not enough shots of the journalists in the crowd imho

How am I supposed to know what to think of that performance?

Could they not do a condensed listing?
Text too big, too much scrolling, sake.
Why can't people give a list of 100 on one page?

Pitchfork like to write paragraphs and paragraphs about a single 90 second track. It's like a trademark.

...there's a lot of stuff I don't know on this thread so it's a fine reference point for further investigation... missed Tim Hecker's Virgins... will be tracking it down!!

...some auricular highlights of 2013 included...

Wire - Change Becomes Us
OMD - English Electric
Klute - The Drift
Brigitte Fontaine - J'ai l'honneur d'être
Blixa Bargeld & Teho Teardo - Still Smiling
Michael Monroe - Horns and Halos
Anoushka Shankar - Traces Of You
The Ex & Brass Unbound - Enormous Door
The Exaltics - Das Heise Experiment
Legendary Pink Dots - Taos Hum
Savages - Silence Yourself
Ravi Shankar - The Living Room Sessions Part 2
Roedelius Schneider - Tiden
Various Artists - Oxycanta III
Bad Religion - True North
Lyndsie Alguire - After Image
Killing Joke - The Singles Collection 1979-2012

Worst nonsense I heard was the new Die Krupps album... innovators making a comeback with a juvenile throwback to every halfarsed band east of Düsseldorf who ever copied them is not good... I'm not sure why I expected anything of it... they've been shit since the late 80's...

THE ONLY LIST THAT MATTERS

Don't really understand why people like Disclosure or Blood Orange so much.

I notice a song from that Perfect Pussy band's demo tape appearing on a few individual lists including Ian Malaney's in the Irish times so they're my tip for the top of 2014 for sure.
