Norman Records: Top 50 Albums of 2013

I'm giving it to Vampire Weekend. Another near-perfect record.

By jesus the only albums i've heard off that norman records list are the Nick Cave, Kurt Vile and Parquet Courts albums. The world has become really niche-filled, i haven't even heard of most of them!



The best album of 2013 was definitely the Fiona Apple album that came out in 2012. I'll go off and compile a better list though.

I'm not sure I've listened to even one new album this year. i listened to half of the Joanna Gruesome album on Sunday. It was average.

Oh I like Thee Oh Sees album. That's a good one.

The Oh Sees record on there is class.
As are The Knife and Factory Floor ones.

But yeah, loads there I don't recognise.

2013 wasn't a great year for records, but what stood out for me:

MIA - Matangi (Decent, can't stand her previous records)
Kanye West - Yeezus (Had never heard his previous records, I'm new to rap)
Melt Banana - Fetch (Most melodic record since the excellent Cellscape)
Rokia Traoré - Beautiful Africa (Chick has got some guitar grooves)
Splashh - Comfort (Fairly unoriginal psychedelic grungey-pop but well executed)
Glimmermen - I'm Dead (Ireland's best rock band of 2013?)
Young Wonder - Show Your Teeth (EP/mini-album?) (Surprised these guys aren't plastered all over Pitchfork)

Am I gonna have to listen to Yeezus again?
It really didn't grab me the way his other records did first time around. Then again neither did Watch The Throne.
