Psych, foreign beats, soul grooves and general exotica thread (1 Viewer)

Can anyone recommend any good turkish stuff, contemporary or otherwise? i know there's a big psych underground there but i'd interested in pretty much anything.

have that Satori record, didn't think much of it now to be honest, must give it another spin so...

3 hur-el have a few reissues out, a couple of years old as far as i'm aware.

yeah Selda rules!! she's still massive in Turkey, sells out football stadiums. lads told me about meeting her for first time, she turned up at the airport in a Rolls Royce, wearing a tracksuit that had patches of dogs all over it :)

2 more Turkish ones coming as far as i'm aware, a Baris Manco comp and a Zafer Dilek comp, have the Zafer Dilek LP with the naked chick on the cover , its cracking. but the Yonca one is pricey pricey...

got satori last year and have been listening to it regularly since. killer album

here is a great music blog i just found that covers a lot of psych - mostly the folky end of things

soundtracks I've been enjoying recently

Bruno Nicolai - Justine CD
Sparse, baroque and classical in parts. Lovely.
nicola_brun_justineor_101b.jpg

Lalo Schifrin - THX 1138 CD
Great strings, chaotic arrangements, nice Latin jazz moment shacked up with avant garde goodness.

Ennio Morricone - Il Grande Silenzio LP
Tracked down a copy with the 'black border' sleeve. 1978 pressing. Initial wax (released in 1968) very limited. Spaghetti western. Possibly my favourite score of his - at the moment anyway. Unbelievably beautiful in parts.

Peter Thomas Sound Orchester - Raumpatrouille (Space Patrol) LP
Fabulous score. Whacked-out orchestral futurism.
Download here
I believe the download has extra tracks not on the vinyl. Let me know what they're like.

Have to say some of the Lalo Schifrin stuff is at bit jazz hands for me with a bit of the token funk thrown in, never heard that score though so will check it out, looks interesting, isn't that the Lucas movie?
that last one looks right up my street though, wowch!

dug this up yesterday for a listen

Puppet on a Chain - Piero Piccioni

his name translates as Peter Pigeon, which i always find amusing. Heard a mad story about him recently, during the 70's he was at this big orgy which was hosted by his cousin, a big time lawyer in Italy at the time, totally loaded. They murdered a woman at the party by drowning her, but they managed to get off, by lets say any means possible!! Italy was a tad corrupt at the time...was reported in his obituary in the Guardian about 2-3 years ago when he passed away. Killer sountrack though :p
