Veggie/Vegan Punks where do you stand on abortion? (1 Viewer)

I guess it was inevitable that I would have to follow my own moral compass eventually.

(the funny thing is that, more or less, i agree with you all. but it's funny to see how easily the ingroup bias can jump to the surface for people as supposedly independent-minded as the punx.)

Wow, how curious. You agree with "the punx", how embarrassing! Better keep that one to yourself, you could find yourself ousted from the 'grown up' crowd.

"Ingroup bias in supposedly independently minded-people as the punx".

Now then...you're clearly not a simpleton, so why identify yourself as such? Do you think "the punx" are "the punx" because they tend to have the same haircut? Oh wait, they don't...is it because they wear similar clothes...oh no, they don't! Hmmm, but they all listen to the same music, don't they? What, they don't!??! OH NO!! Somebody's shat in my pigeonhole!

Listen, 'pal', the punx are the punx because of certain shared ideas: namely a broad belief in personal freedom and anti-authoritarianism, under which banner you'll find many shared views (anti-sexism, a do-it-yourself mentality, vegetarianism, critical thinking, anti-fascism, queer-postivity, etc). And then there's the people who are "only in it for the music" and hold views which the majority of punx (i.e. free-thinking individuals) don't agree with, which are in fact abhorrent to them...as ably demonstrated by the 30+ pages of this thread.

Does that suffice to put you right? Or would you rather pretend that we all walk around mumbling "punks not dead" in our usual "father-dougal-esque hive-mind" state?

Since you apparently met me and I was sound to you, do us a favour and send me a PM telling me who you are, eh?

If that's aimed at me I dispute that :p

Well, I'll back this up by saying I have real misgivings about pitching the majority of punx as 'free-thinking individuals', and those "only in it for the music" as somewhat opposite. While I personally consider that I share all of laudable opinions above with this majority group of punx's I actually have a bit of a love-hate relationship with punxs and think some of them, including the so called 'right-on' ones can be fucking blinkered at times. So I guess I both identify, and don't, with 'the punx' which is maybe Cormy's point though put across a little black and white.

Since you apparently met me and I was sound to you, do us a favour and send me a PM telling me who you are, eh?

He already said that or are you to young to get the 'indie-tom' reference?
You mean you don't remember Tarca? Those were Halcyon Days around the first years of the millenium. Halcyon days.
Ask Doyler about it.

I too better get back to my studies, but for me its 4000 words on "Ideas of the Uncanny in Popular Culture and Contemporary Sculptural Practice".
What a bunch of swotty-nerds the punx are. At least I get to read about Bladerunner and Vicorian Horror stories.

.
And yeah Corm, ask Doyler!

I heard that folk from the general board drive sandwiches on wheels and smell with their ears. It's an eerie creepy place and the sooner it's burned down the better we will all sleep.
haven't i been saying that all along? but they drive paninis and smell with their hairstyles, actually.

Now that's weird. I like the general board.
