shell sink fishing boat with crew on board. (1 Viewer)

Shows that you dont understand the issues here. The corrib gas project could for example go ahead at sea, far away from people's houses, under a nationalised gas scheme, with a standard tax rate on gas extracted, with full community consultation or any number of ways.
Who pays the damages to Shell of that happens?

i hear IRMS are available for forum modding.

That was the issue......
20 years ago before the deal with Shell was done.

There is an agreement in place between Shell and the Irish state. If it is breached Shell would be entitled to compensation for the lost revenue.
well, they should've taken this seriously earlier, before they tried to push and bribe through an unsuitable plan. it's not like they had no warning that it wasn't wanted.

Why?
I hate Shell as much as you do.
I think the deal we have done with them is terrible, same as you do.

and so because some cunt of a politician enshrined it into our non-sensical and seemingly untouchable law books it makes everything perfectly ok with sunshine and rose-tinted glasses, so dont question anything mmmkay, because it says so in the law book, and god knows the law is always right.

so just shutup and be grateful, mmmkay?

Shell were granted the rights, that can't be taken away from them without compensation. No amount of protesting will change that. Sorry.

What do people here actually think the outcome will be? What's a best case scenario?

Shell decide to refine at sea - that will never happen, the refinery is nearly completed.
The government change the deal - Never happen either, and would result in a massive damage payout to Shell.

Shell won't be swayed by public pressure and the government can do nothing for you. All those Green Party supporters, who are actually in goverment, what have they done/promised to do?

What's left?

The government, if they wanted to, could just tell Shell to fuck off. No compensation needed, nothing, just tell the Brits to get lost oops I mean the oil company.
