From http://www.corribsos.com/ (Shell to Sea network)

ABSOLUTE LIE: That 15 masked men entered the Shell compound at Glengad with tools and chains and vandalised the area

FACT: Locals opposing Shell's controversial Corrib project removed fencing from Glengad compound at approx. 11:30pm

FACT: Guardaí left the area at around 9pm according to locals

FACT: Willie Corduff had been under a truck at the Glengad site for 16 hours, when at approximately 3:00am IRMS security wearing balaclavas moved in to forcibly remove him.

FACT: A local resident saw masked security men push Willie Corduff to the ground, kick him and hit him with large batons. They knelt on his head and twisted his arms behind his back as they beat him. His brother-in-law attempted to come to Willie's aid but was himself beaten.

FACT: After this attack, Willie Corduff was hospitalised by ambulance. He remains in hospital.

FACT: The only violence that happened in Glengad last night was carried out by Shell security

FACT: A carefully orchestrated media offensive began on Thursday 23rd April 09 to try and discredit the many local opponents to Shell's controversial project by accusing them of vandalism and violence

It's the latest in a long line of spinmasterry by shell. The reports on it have been unreal, it's amazing what fodder people will take as journalism. There was the fire this time last year, that community outreach bollox, the bomb scare there a while ago. You could compile all the shit they've fed to the press and the majority of Irish people still wouldn't give a shit about the complete and utter distain those cunts are showing for this country.

Anyway, more mayo madness here: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it-gPAhFq1c"]YouTube - Bull in Supermarket - Cummins SuperValu Ballinrobe Co. Mayo[/ame]

There's a small enough article on it in today's Irish Times. It acknowledges the Shell To Sea's account....but only after justifying the pigs and shells comment firsts. The whole approach to the article was just a bit "off" though.

I felt a bit angered after reading it. But at least they gave Shell To Sea's point of view on it, however contrived they presented it.

Well their report on it yesterday was in no way trying to be balanced. The IT's reporting has become a lot more biased as time has passed on this issue, even more so in the last year. They used to quote S2S sources a lot more. They always give a token nod in situations like this but ultimately are, to use the title of the excellent media lens book, guardians of power.
