Bodytonic’s bar The Bernard Shaw marks 10 years on the go with 10 days of special events kicking off this weekend
The Bernard Shaw was the very first Bodytonic bar. It was only to only last 2 years while the building went through planning permission, but thanks to the recession, fancy office/apartment plans were shelved and alas we’re still here.
In existence since 1895, Bodytonic started a new chapter for this building as The Bernard Shaw in 2006 and have been creating weird and wonderful events in here ever since. Incorporating Leo & Daria’s Italian cafe, a pizza kitchen on an old London double decker bus, a huge beer garden, an exhibition space as well as the multitude of music and creative shows, this deceptively small venue packs a whole lot in.
Music has always been Bodytonic’s first love which is obvious in the Shaw’s narrative. Some of the international guests that have played free in shows in The BS over the years include: the original Major Lazer (Diplo & Switch), Dam Funk, Dixon, DJ Yoda, Dave Clarke, Theo Parrish, Optimo, Joy O, Greg Wilson, Taylor McFerrin, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Knxwledge and lots more.
Not to mention countless theme nights & exhibitions including Maser’s Tribute to Keith Haring (which saw Philip Tracey turning up as punter), 12Sundays Tribute to Arthur Russel, Alan Partridge Table quiz with Mike The Geordie, Don Conroy’s first “live” show off TV, our legendary Car Boot Sales and Eat My Shorts Film series.
To celebrate our milestone b-day, we want to invite everyone down for a good ol’ fashioned party with us through the month of October.
