Popicalia 20: Land Lovers, So Cow, Windings – Siteation, 23rd November

Popical Island’s Popicalia returns to Siteation on November 23rd, with Land Lovers, Windings & So Cow.

POPICALIA returns for nineteenth time (it’s the 20th edition so that’s 19 returns so there). Playing this time are the wholesome triple threat of WINDINGS, SO COW and LAND LOVERS. Enjoy SO COW, WINDINGS and LAND LOVERS at POPICALIA #20.

Windings
Windings are a 5-piece rock/alt/pop/indie/folk/ (etc…) band from Limerick City, Ireland.

Released in October 2012 on Out On A Limb Records, I Am Not The Crow has been lauded by critics both nationally and internationally as one of the top Irish albums of that year, with its lead single ‘This Is A Conversation’ achieving considerable airplay on it’s release. Windings have been touring more or less full throttle since the album’s release, pausing briefly every now and again to regroup/refresh/have a quick love of life, then hit the road hard again.

Land Lovers

Land Lovers are a band from Dublin in Ireland, who play in a melodic, wordy style that might not be actual pop music but is something of the sort. They are founder members of the Popical Island collective and they hope you enjoy whatever it is you do with their music.

So Cow

October 2013 sees the release of The Long Con, So Cow’s first full-length LP since 2010’s Meaningless Friendly. The album was produced by Greg Saunier (Deerhoof) and is to be released on the legendary Goner Records label, out of Memphis, Tennessee. The album was recorded and mixed over six days in the quiet, rural setting of Ballyheigue on the south-west coast of Ireland. The LP follows on from last year’s Out Of Season split LP with Dublin punks Squarehead, released on Brooklyn’s Inflated Records. That release saw a change in bank dynamics, with the one-man-band approach of the first two LPs (2009’s So Cow and 2010’s Meaningless Friendly on Chicago’s Tic Tac Totally Records were recorded by singer/guitar Brian Kelly alone) finally put to a side in favour of the intensity of the threepiece’s live sound. Often described up to this point as a three-way marriage of The Television Personalities, Abba and The Clean, it’s fairly obvious that Kelly, along with bassist Jonny White and drummer Peter O’Shea, have all been listening to a good chunk of The Jesus Lizard and Thee Oh Sees.
