Pick For The Picnic 2011 Final – Crawdaddy, Thursday September 1st

This Thursday, four bands will enter the Pick For The Picnic Thunderdome in Crawdaddy and fight to the death for a chance to play at this weekend’s Electric Picnic. Wait… that’s not right.

The final of Heineken Music and POD‘s Pick for the Picnic takes place this September 1st in Crawdaddy where Tandem Felix, Eatenbybears, The Depravations and Leaders of Men will battle it out one more time for a slot at Electric Picnic Music and Arts Festival.

Music fans can enjoy the gig for free with a complimentary Heineken on arrival from 8pm when all four bands will strut their stuff one last time before the winner is announced and departs for Stradbally the very next day to open the Crawdaddy stage at the festival.

The competition has unearthed some of Ireland’s most exciting talent with many of the bands surely set for bigger things. Last year’s winners Cloud Castle Lake have caused quite a stir on the music scene and are currently in the middle of recording their debut LP.

Tandem Felix
From Dublin, Tandem Felix are the type of band that, for us, play with music that feels beyond their years yet is pulled off with a confidence that instantly makes it very believable. With an array of quality tracks under their belt (and available to download via their bandcamp), they are starting to get themselves a lot of praise. They’re also modest chaps as they describe themselves as “four gentlemen, playing polite and intriguing music for themselves and their friends”.

Eatenbybears

Formed in October 2010 when Olan Stephens left Galway to find violinist, Aidan Kelly and drummer, James Pollock in my first year studying Music Technology and Sonic Arts in Queens University Belfast. With the experience of having played with various groups over the years, Eatenbybears gelled and gathered momentum fast. We quickly recorded our first two single releases “Vanderhoof” and “Spite Houses”, which both got BBC Radio1 Airplay, having been given the thumbs up by the likes of bands such as Glasvegas and And So I Watch You From Afar. And so followed the live shows, with bass player Clark Phillips on board we have been gigging steadily and plan to continue doing so across the summer with our debut EP being released soon.

The Depravations
The Depravations are a four piece indie folk pop dance rock surf paper scissors band based in Galway, Ireland. Since forming in 2007 they have released two EPs and are currently recording their debut album to be released in September 2011. The influences are range from the 1950s and 1960s, surf music, really old country and blues and 1990s dance music. Lyrically its mostly about love, distance, death and sunshine.

Leaders Of Men

Leaders Of Men are a new 5-piece from Tallaght in Dublin. They’ve wasted no time in getting a number of live shows under their belts in venues such as The Workman’s Club and Tripod and will be releasing their debut EP later in August.
