Fesant Fest: Only Fumes & Corpses, Rites, Complan Complan, I’ll Eat Your Face, Wizards Of Firetop Mountain & more – Ballina, 30th June

Fancy a day of free punk & hardcore in Ballina? Head to the Fesant Fest on June 30th so & catch Only Fumes & Corpses, Rites, Complan Complan, I’ll Eat Your Face & Wizards Of Firetop Mountain & many more.

Fesant Fest returns to Emmett’s rock bar in Ballina on Saturday, June 30th after a resoundingly successful first outing last August. Brought to you by a collective of punk/diy enthusiasts that have been running gigs in the town for over ten years, this year’s festival bumps the lineup up to twelve bands with few genres left uncatered for.

Talent from the four corners of the country will be on show with Cork’s representation coming from the sickeningly tight party/grindcore duo I’ll Eat Your Face and the melodious cosmic garage sounds of The Altered Hours. With a forthcoming double EP vinyl release on English label Lockjaw Records, hardcore punk stalwarts Only Fumes and Corpses make the short trip north from Galway with the excellent Rites, who play skull-shaking doomy stoner rock, and Harvester, who have just started bringing their big Sabbath-tinged riffs in the last month or so.
Dublin band Wizards of Firetop Mountain have taken the scene by storm in recent months with their bluesy classic/hard rock anthems, you’ll be singing their choruses and riffs to yourself all day Sunday. Lantern For A Gale make their way down from Antrim, bringing their intricate and aggressive melodic hardcore with them. Mayo is well represented too, with Westport’s On Pain of Death looking after the slower sludgey-er side of metal while Foxford’s Alterend bring a more familiar ‘proper style metal’ sound to proceedings. If you like Sepultura, you’ll be happy out. Ballina oi-reggae legends Section 4 are joined in representing the town by the recently formed Alps; it’s not just a clever name. Wrapping up on the night will be Complan Complan, a mysterious punky covers band from somewhere along the border that are guaranteed to get you dancing.

So that’s that, a long day of top class entertainment kicking off at 4pm and all for free! That’s right, no admission price so you’ve no excuse. See you up the front.
