The third Bottlenote Festival of improvised music takes place this weekend in Block T, Smithfield.
The Bottlenote Festival, now in its third year, pairs together some of Ireland’s leading improvising musicians with their European counterparts for an intensive week of new music. Participants come together for a series of workshops and rehearsals the week prior to the concerts, devising new music specifically for the festival, which then culminates in three nights of brand new live performance.
For 2011 Bottlenote focuses on Berlin, and has cherry picked two vital voices from the internationalised Berlin music scene to bring to Dublin: acclaimed trumpeter Tom Arthurs and the subversive Roy Carroll on computer. The festival will also feature performances by Irish artists Zoid, Djackulate, Seán Mac Erlaine, Shane O’Donovan, Justin Carroll, Shane Latimer and Phil McMullen, all taking place in Smithfield’s alternative art space Block T this October 20th-22nd.
