Since its establishment in the summer of 2003, Limerick-based independent label Out On A Limb Records had put nine albums and a number of singles by time they celebrated their fifth birthday last year. Then, things went quiet in 2009; no releases were scheduled, and the label decided to take stock of the past five years. Now, Out On A Limb is ready to come out of hiding, with renewed vigour and considerable plans for the development of the label in 2010, with new releases and projects being pencilled in for what will be a very exciting year for OOAL and its artists. Nonetheless, the label has decided not to completely write-off 2009, and plan to squeeze one more party in, something which OOAL have been pretty nifty at over the years.
On Saturday, December 12, OOAL artists Rest, Windings and Hooray For Humans play the Twisted Pepper in Dublin.
Rest have been with OOAL since late 2003 with the release of their much-cherished limited-edition Christmas single with giveamanakick. Since then, they’ve released their debut LP “Burning In Water, Drowning In Flame” (2004) and the mini-album “Operation: Impending Doom” (2007), toured with Cult Of Luna, featured on Kerrang compilations, and played with the likes of Isis and Zu. Live appearances are rare enough, and this will be their first time playing Dublin this year.
Since Windings’ eponymous debut album in 2005 when it was primarily the solo project of Steve Ryan, Windings has now morphed into a four-piece band, with live shows veering from “stripped down acoustic melancholia, or beefed up distorted electric rock from hell (kind of)”. The full Windings band will be playing at Twisted Pepper, previewing tunes from the eagerly-anticipated new record, which is now recorded, and will be released next year.
Hooray For Humans joined Out On A Limb in 2007, and quickly set about dispatching their debut record “Safekeeping” on the public. Numerous tours have happened in Ireland and the UK since, as well as shows in Toronto and New York. The follow-up to ‘”Safekeeping” is expected to “drop” in 2010.
Doors are at 7:30pm, and tickets are €10. DJ sets from Crayonsmith & Windings DJ will follow the bands. The first twenty people to pay in will receive an individualised 5-track CDr, with unique artwork from a member of an OOAL act/label. Everybody else will receive a download code to get the mini-compilation of rarities available only on the night!
