The Field is Axel Willner, and his last album, Here We Go Sublime, was one of the most acclaimed releases of 2007, receiving a 9.0 on Pitchfork and universal praise. The BBC called it “one of those rare albums that makes you wonder how you ever got by without it.” The album is the soundtrack to the spit-shined airport of your dreams – faceless, futuristic, and fuzzy. You could dance to it, sleep to it, or daydream to it: just a versatile little album.
Now, Willner’s label, KOMPAKT, moves forward with his sophomore full length, Yesterday And Today.

Mr ScruffMr Scruff: Keep It Unreal – 5 hour set

Friday January 29th, 10pm

A lot of things have happened since a young Andy Carthy started answering to the name Mr Scruff – making a name for himself under the shadow of Manchester’s mid 90s club scene. Not only has he released three critically acclaimed albums, selling over half a million records worldwide, with countless tours and club events he has cemented his now legendary DJ status. This is a DJ that can sell out the 1600 capacity London KoKo armed only with his records, some turntables and a few spare packets of teabags.

Ever since emerging as a member of
Black Star in the late 1990s, Talib Kweli is one of the few artists making commercially viable music that matters. The Brooklyn bred rapper’s hard-hitting music has been able to educate and entertain simultaneously. So it is no wonder that at the peak of their fame, both Jay-Z and 50 Cent named Talib Kweli as one of their favorite rappers. With Ear Drum, his first album released on his own Blacksmith Music and his sixth album overall, Kweli has delivered his career-defining work, a polished collection showcasing his advanced lyricism and his penchant for picking music that resonates long after the song ends.
