Marissa Nadler, David Colohan – The Button Factory, Friday September 5th

Win a pair of tickets to Marissa Nadler‘s Friday night gig in The Button Factory

On the back of her sixth album release ‘July’, Marissa Nadler is touring Europe and will be playing in the Button Factory in Dublin this Friday. Hailing from Massachusetts Nadler’s journey in to music was organic, being one of several media she has worked in (including woodcarving, illustration and bookbinding). Her mezzo-soprano voice gives her music an ethereal, dreamlike sound which drifts along with her simple yet intricate guitar.

Her earlier songs featured recurring characters through which she told stories while her later songs come from a more personal perspective. Influenced by Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush and Townes Van Zandt, Nadler is unique, intimate and engaging. It is a distinctly North East American sound conjuring up images of the early settlers gathered around campfires telling stories of ghosts and lost loves while night circles around them.

‘July’ was released by Bella Union in the UK earlier this year. Also worth checking out are ‘Little Hells’, ‘Songs III: Bird on the Water’ and ‘The Saga of Mayflower May’.

Support will come from the rather excellent David Colohan (United Bible Studies).
