Liss Ard 2012 4th & 5th August – Bob Mould, Lisa Hannigan, Chic, Heathers, Nicolas Jaar, Tieranniesaur & more

Fancy winning a pair of tickets to the Liss Ard festival? Read on…

Despite an egregious use of the word boutique, the Liss Ard Festival has been doing steady business for a while now. August sees the return and rebirth of this intimate camping festival with great music, inspiring literary works and a delicious healthy food fair.

The festival has, over the years, featured such acts as Pulp, Will Oldham, Tindersticks, Nick Cave, Lou Reed and Patti Smith playing, and talking, to a select crowd of only the most discerning punters. This year the festival will feature headliners CHIC, along with main man Nile Rodgers reading from his autobiography on the latest addition to the festival, the Literary Stage. Jamaican reggae greats Toots & the Maytals are also performing, as is Mick Flannery who plays one of only three shows in Ireland this summer with his recently-released third album ‘Red to Blue’ having spent four weeks at number 1 in the Irish album charts. Also appearing is Lisa Hannigan and The Blue Nile frontman Paul Buchanan.

Bob Mould and his band will perform Sugar’s Copper Blue, in it’s entirety, as well as a sprinkling of other chops from his Sugar/Husker Du repertoire. Nicolas Jaar will bring his incredible live show to the festival on Saturday 4th August, in what is a rare live appearance on Irish soil. Best known for his 11 piece, crowd-captivating Kormac’s Big Band, scratch/swing-nouveau extraordinaire, DJ KORMAC will bring a searing set to Skibbereen this August. Following the release of World Play in 2010 and his Superhero EP last June, Kormac’s genre-bending form has erupted a plethora of festival dance floors both at home and abroad. Prepare for him to spin Liss Ard into an electro/hip-hop whirlwind.

The Macrae Sisters are an old-time stringband based out of Portland, Oregon who combine a deep love of traditional music with top-notch musicianship. Veteran UK progressive folk singer and guitarist Roy Harper will also perform as will Interference, West Cork Ukulele Orchestra, Tieranniesaur, Chromatics, Rhob Cunningham with many many more.

Situated in the heart of the West Cork food movement, the festival will also feature and pay tribute to the outstanding and creative food producers whose names are today synonymous with the best quality foods of Europe. West Cork boasts an un-spoilt countryside and a long, beautiful coastline, making it a natural haven for unique high quality foods.
