Barn Owl, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Eamonn Bailey, April 28th, The Joinery

We’ve got some free passes to give away to see Thrill Jockey’s black metal shoegazers(?) Barn Owl this Thursday in The Joinery thanks to our friends and yours over at at Skinny Wolves.

San Francisco’s BARN OWL‘s hypnotic psychedelic shoegaze drone and black metal atmospherics evoke the likes of Earth, Flying Saucer Attack, Popol Vuh & Sunn 0))) while ex Tarental and Alps member Jefre Cantu-Ledesma journeys into the beautifully cacophonous worlds of shoegaze, drone and soundscaping dream pop noise.

Barn Owl (USA, Thrill Jockey )
Evan Caminiti (guitars, vocals) and Jon Porras (guitars, vocals, drums, harmonium) met in San Francisco in 2006 and immediately started playing music together. Over the next four years, the two gradually sculpted a vast collection of hazy desert sky meditations – ominous, barren expanses of music for desert walks at dusk, and dark, pastoral passages embellished with psychedelic and atmospheric wash. A mixture between devotional ragas and dusty stomp with atmosphere and production that references shoegaze and black metal influences.

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma (USA, Type Records)
As a member of San Francisco legends Tarentel and Type’s premier astral travellers The Alps, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma is hardly a new addition to the label, so it’s hard to believe that ‘Love Is A Stream’ is his first Type solo album. Previously releasing on Arbor, Spekk and his own Root Strata imprint, this latest album marks his journey into the beautifully cacophonous world of dream pop.
