The guy I called out originally to fix it says our broken pipe will have to be fixed at some point.But that's going to involve a small digger and loads of expense. So I just have to keep on top of it. Because I'm the man of the house.

Do you know if the break is on your property ?

If it's under the public way, then Irish Water own the repair

I know a bit about this, so feel free to ask anything

It's obvious, but make sure no one is flushing baby/makeup wipes or paper towels
Only jacks roll and whatever's coming out of your body
Same goes with kitty litter and all that - bag it, don't flush it

Don't mean to state the obvious, this is just experience

You'll need a camera survey done and hopefully relining the damaged section will fix it - may not need to be dug up

If you get the survey done - get a quote on a "looksee" and the upgrade to a recordable video

Then shop the video for your best quote on a repair
The guy that does the survey, doesn't have to be the guy that does the repair

Thanks! My dad is convinced I will be able to fix it myself. He doesn't know me at all. I'm going to try and determine where the blockage is and dig at that point to see if the pipe is damaged. I'd much rather throw money at it..but I don't have enough.

It's not gonna come out clean, but if the drain is not currently blocked, you should be able to get close enough to the damage with something like this
I'm not recommending that one in particular, that was just the first result

I go to my local one. Specsavers do free eye tests but I’ve been trying to minimise my interactions with crappy UK chains.

Probably most people I now go to specsavers.
No real harm in getting a free eye test though. Could go local as well.
