Wow, I have just discovered... (5 Viewers)

I've listened to Alasdair Robert's stuff on and off over the years but never listened to The Old Fabled River until yesterday, lovely stuff

I stumbled across this 13 years ago and loved it, and return to it a lot. If I never heard another note I wouldn't mind. Listening again just now I think his guitar is slightly out of tune, but who cares

What a sweet sounding guitar!

Brand new strings..thats why he's slightly out I reckon

Either way..sounds class. Being in tune is overrated

Probably even considered rude in some cultures

PP Arnold had another couple of hits

and on the subject of tuning, check out how out of tune yet fantastic the two guitars sound in the verses

I keep meaning to check him out, I’ve seen him play with Current 93 and he was fabulous.

Sound familiar?

This is Robert Palmer under an alias...messing around with a James Brown beat on drum machine

while he was making this in his home studio , Lynn Goldsmith called over and heard it and suggested putting the self help vocal on it. She then went on to do a whole album like this as Will Powers!

I knew cartoonist Hunt Emerson created this character
beat.jpg

"The Beat asked me to draw them a logo, something to go alongside Two-Tone’s Walt Jabsco figure – the guy in the shades and white porkpie hat. I found a photo of ska star Prince Buster dancing with a nice looking girl, and I used her as the basis for the Beat Girl. – Hunt Emerson"

But I didn't realise Brigitte Bond was a transwoman

remarkable research to piece all that together.
I hope it isn't the case that she doesn't want to be found and it causes her problems.

They’re a band I’ve heard mentioned a lot from reading about Factory but never actually bothered to listen to them.

Cheers for that.
I've always neglected Vini unfortunately.
When I was getting to grips with early Factory in late 90s / early 2000s The Durutti Column (fantastic name) stuff had already been reissued in 1996 (not by Le Temps de Modernes who did most of the early Factory stuff apart from JD and NO) and wasn't available again until 2010.

I knew Vini had been ill a lot for a long time and had lost his home.
Drummer Bruce Mitchell must be about 83 now.

I listened to this last night after reading that interview. Well it was headphones in bed til I dosed off. Apparently its Brian Enos favourite album. I've seen the bands name for years but never felt inclined to check them out.

I didnt find the album very interesting tbh.It sounded like it may have been an influence on the Edge from U2

Just realised this is Graham Bonnet from Rainbow

He's great at the old scream-singing
