Why piracy isn't such a bad thing for music (2 Viewers)

I just think the music industry needs to make the general public more aware of the valuable service it provides to all of us throughout our lives, from the cradle to the Electric Picnic.
Every band could be rechristened to heighten awareness of the fact that they are a Music Community (let's drop the intimidating term 'industry') band. There needs to be a generic term for the Music Community first. For the sake of argument, let's say 'LifeNote'. LifeNote's Bloc Party could then appear at LifeNote's Oxegen or on the LifeNote radio (all radios renamed). Just like football fans now appreciate that Eircom is the heartbeat of the game in this country, LifeNote could instill in the populace a respect for the Music Community through pure repetition (which is what drew us all to pop in the first place).
Any musical event, broadcast or appliance that does not acknowledge the contribution of LifeNote in its name would swiftly lose the trust of the people.

Instead of LifeNote how about a system whereby everyone contributes something towards the general running of the Music Community thereby allowing music to survive.
So you may contribute your driving skills for a bands tour and then they would give you the equivalent number of hours you spent driving in music. So if you spend 500 hours driving, then the band would give you 500 hours worth of music.
The band themselves may not have recorded 500 hours worth of music, so they could make that up from music from other bands. Bands would trade music with eachother. So, for instance, if a band have five albums, then they could use those five albums to trade with other bands who would then let them use their music to trade for even more music.
And then the guy who did the driving could use the music he was given to trade for more music from even more bands.
It could work like this - a new band's album which is say 45 minutes long will get them 2 hours worth of music from an established band. They could go to something like 200 established bands and then they'll have 400 hours worth of music. Then they could have that and use it to trade for more music from another band and so on. And some bands would really be in demand so when they release their first album - which could be half an hour long, it could be worth something like 200 hours worth of music. That way then this band could then use the music they get from their trades to "pay" for touring vans, merchandising and stuff like that. They could even use their music to trade for food. And maybe even give some music to charity.

Absolutely! If there is one thing that can benefit from spare music, it is charity.
