what should i get? (3 Viewers)

New 90 Day Men lp is fab, much better than I'd expected and well worth getting, as is the Apes 'the fugue in the fog', and Check Engines effort isn't too shabby neither.

dudley extolled the virtues of:
little richard biography

Truly rules.
Although the bits about Buddy Holly riding Angel while she attended to Richard and the gay man with the cholostomy bag made me feel a little poorly.

interestingly, those are the passages i remember you painfully trying to find then gleefully reciting to me before lending the book.

what about the guy who used to tell little richard that his rectum was a vagina from being fucked so many times. crikey. and the constant references to little richard having his 'titties' sucked?

what a book

dudley (28 Jan, 2002 04:30 p.m.):

Sort of Cocteau Twins if Liz Frazer was a bloke and came from Texas and had visions of angels and shit

cocteau twins???

*shudder*

you no like the Cocteau twins Dudley??

in that case I think I see where our difference of opinion stems from...

...you obviously have shit taste!!

[ba-dum-tish!!]

:p :) :p :) :p :) :p :) :p

well i got the 'in the beginning there was rythm' compilation... and dithered over the reduced albums in big brother before getting aphex twin's 'classics'... i hope everyone's happy now. also, end hits gets my vote as best fugazi album and propaghandi are shite. shite shite shite. and i'm off to get large mound mpthrees now.

dudley (28 Jan, 2002 03:37 p.m.):
the pinback record especially

yes, but almost impossible to get in this cuntry.

i spent many dollars + waited many weeks to get it, but it was completely completely worth it as it is just a gorgeous record.

then i found it in freebird the next week for 3.99.

the sad thing is i actually bought it again.
it just didn't feel right leavin it sit there.

nah the nice guy that ronan is he gave it to me as a gift. one of the nicest gifts ive ever had.

one of the nicest guys...yeah im gonna stop right there.

Well I think it's excellent but what you have to remember is that what you are hearing are the sessions and as a result there is no definitive version as such. Having said that the "Good Vibrations" box set included 32 mins of "Smile" tracks which is probably the length it would have been if released.

Is that that never released Beach Boys Album? Is is as good as people say it is?

can i just agree with dudley and say in an anonymous, cowardly way that those large mound mp3s are indeed facking excellent.

i'm not an anonymous coward, i'm an anonymous coward's son.

Don't tell me Raised On Rock is on Napster already!?
:)

Get Mink Car by They Might Be Giants! although I notice the European version only has 14 songs, the US one has 17! Plus the track listing is all wrong.

A Beach Boys record buying discussion on thumped, sounds good to me. "Smile" is fantastic but if you don't already own a copy of "Friends" then I highly recommend it. A beautiful record from start to finish, featuring in my opinion Brian and Carl at their best.

Also check out:
Whats up Matador - A compilation of bands on Matador (Pavement, GBV, Spoon, Etc) 48 song double cd for £8.99 or e11.41,available from HMV.
Larmousse - "Tape"
Billy Mahonie - "what becomes before" which is a fucking great album.
Blonde Redhead - "Melody Of Certain Damaged Lemons".

Now, happy campers.

Boards of Canada - "Music Has the Right to Children"
Swans - "Cop"
Winter - "Into Darkness" (I need a new copy of this myself actually)
Dragbody - "Flip the Killswitch"
Squarepusher - "Feed Me Weird Things"
Shuggie Otis - "Inspiration Information"
Assuck - "Misery Index"
Shudder to Think - "Get Your Goat"
Limpwrist -"Limpwrist"
Veruca Salt - "American Thighs" (for nostalgia value)

I recommend a bag of chips from the chipper in the George's St. Arcade, some pickled peppers form the stall in the middle, some hummus from the stall down the end and all placed in a baguette from Dunne's.
