Never heard that, the original is great.

The solo in mouth for war is sensational.

Best Pantera solo ever follwed closely by floods and Dimebags take on Planet Caravan.

"trout mask replica" is one of the best albums ever. fast and bulbous.

todays listening:

coil vs elph: "protection" / "born again pagans". the first track (taken from their soundtrack to "the gay mans guide to safer sex", hence the title) is atypical for coil. its a euphoric estactic dance track which sounds very like orbital, but much much more rhythmically complex. trying to figure out the time signatures in the mid section is a headfuck. the other tracks are more ambient and hallucinatory. quite lovely. amazing trippy cover art also.

nurse with wound: "livin' fear of james last". excellent overview of nww's work over the years, a pretty faultless tracklisting considering the highly difficult task of compiling nww pieces for a 2cd release.

diarmuid macdiarmada: "mills of god". endlessly hilarious mix cd. wonderful.

robert ashley: "automatic writing and other works". superb, one of the strangest and most soothing records ever. the title track sounds like nocturnal pillow talk heard while slurring in and out of reality while a party goes on in a different part of the building. the bonus tracks are very powerful though slightly more disturbing in nature and content.

king tubby, chris watson: various bits and pieces. the former, dub god, doesnt get much better for me. the latter, excellent field recordings.

colin potter and the hafler trio: "a pressed on sandwich". fantastic remix of material from h3o's fantastic "how to slice a loaf of bread" 6 cd album. particularly wonderful for its succinctness. my current going-to-sleep album.

coil: "musick to play in the dark, vol 1". one of coil's best song based albums, a flawless work.

what are the alan vega records like? always mean to pick them up but never do.

listened to the others only once, but saturn strip twice so can't make bold statements yet. S/t sounded great, minimalistic rockabilly kinda stuff, with riffs hanging on just a bit or even more longer, simple stuff with just guitar and vocals. Collision drive was the same kind of stuff but with the normal guitar-bass-drums-vocals thing...least interesting of the bunch but more listens might change this...nice version of Ghost Rider on this one. Now, Saturn Strip sounded even better than the selftitled - Alan Jourgensen of Ministry featuring on one tune, Ric Ocaseck from Cars playing guitar/keyboards and producing the thing...more electronic than the previous ones, great tunes and a good sound...if you like that sort of thing and i do. New wave that is.
