What movie did you watch last night? (15 Viewers)

Though similar to the Seven Samurai (or Battle Beyond the Stars for that matter) - this was an excellent Japanese Samurai Saga. Miike was way more restrained than I expected (not that it was a bad thing) with only one scene containing one of his more grotesque touches. Its 140min running time was pretty well paced and involving as it built up to the climactic final battle...

I think I may rewath my Lone Wolf and Cub boxed set now :)

Dying to see this.

Knowing fuck all about it, I took a girl I barely knew to see Ichi the Killer on a first date.
Excruciating.

I may have mentioned this before.

Its way more mainstream than another of his stuff i've seen. Theres a bit of blood in it but not worse than most in the genre (for the most part). I think its actually a remake of a 60's film...

From an email dated Tue, Aug 3, 2004 with subject line 'Dude'

You have to ge see this Metallica movie.
It's a fucking train wreck of egos.
Even Mustaine is in it whimpering like a bitch.

How was Rosslare?

Had a weird Saturday
I went to the pub late on Saturday because I knew I wanted to see the
midnight movie - Ichi The Killer.
So I'm talking to the hot Bosnian and she says she'd love to go with me.
Vey violent, I say, apart from that don't know much about it. "I'm from
Bosnia", she says, "seen it all".
She drives us there in her brand new motor, things are going well.
I buy 2 tickets and we sit in the darkened theatre with a bunch of trenchcoats.
Opening scene is of a girl getting the living piss beaten out of her
by a guy who obviously gets off on it and proceeds to rape her. Ichi
(our "hero") is watching through the window.
The rapist hears a sound outside the window and when he goes to
investigate, Ichi's gone but the camera focuses on the fresh glob of
sperm he's left dripping off a ficus leaf. Okay.
This movie is the most graphically violent thing I've ever watched.
For the next 2 1/4 hours there is sheer butchery on the screen.
You have to see it to believe the sheer variety and inventiveness of
the director's (Takeshi Miike) ways of killing people.
Plenty of rape, allusions to rape, discussion of rape too. The message
is also hammered home that Ichi, our hero, while objecting to rape in
principle clearly gets off on watching it.
I think it was around the time that a girls clamped nipples were
stretched across a table and then sliced off that I questioned the
wiseness of bringing a girl I wanted to fuck to a movie like this.
She was game enough and laughed and squeezed my hand and shit but it
was obvious that she wanted the movie to be over a lot earlier than it
ended.
I got a lift back to the pub to pick up my bike, a peck on the cheek
and for some reason laughed all the way home.

LOL - I read that as if you wanted to fuck her while watching Ichii :)

I did bring Ilsa Shewolf over to a girls house when she asked to bring some films over. She stated anything but horror - she never mentioned 'naziexploitation' (they rarely do). We're still together.

Handsome Ricard Gere plays a bi-polar man in the world's most obvious character study.

He's every woman's dream man, exciting, impulsive, passionate but every now and then he goes into a corner and has a bit of a cry so he's vulnerable as well. Even Richard Gere's smiling eyes, greying locks and over the top acting couldn't stop this from being one of the worst films i've ever seen. I'm actually looking forward to the probable remake featuring Tom Cruise since this is pretty much how he acts these days.

On the plus side Lena Olin was in it and wore some nice clothes.

It also has the most amazing tagline:

'Everything That Makes Him Dangerous
Makes Her Love Him
Even More.'

10/10
