Independence Day by Richard Ford...was going to abandon it after about 100 pages, but I'm happy now I didn't. The final pages are alive!
I've started and dropped this a few times now.
Reading "Scoop" by Evelyn Waugh. Amusing
yeah it took me many months of stuttering efforts to get into it, but it really packs a punch in the last quarter, incredibly moving...
I'm currently reading Nancy Drew mysteries at the rate of one a night. They're not very well written but strangely compelling. I last read them when I was 5 or 6 so it's a bit nostalgic. Discovered them gathering dust in my parent's place last weekend and decided to rescue them.
I justify such simple reading to myself by glancing at the shelf which contains just some of the fascinating reading (Hagel, Aristotle, Kant and Hume to name but a few of the authors) that will take the next 9 months of my life.
