What Book Did You Read Last Night??? (7 Viewers)

Just fininshed The Crossing by Cormnac Mc Carthy, really great. Straight onto ALl My Pretty Horses, and I've the 3rd book in trilogy patiently waiting.
I love wolves... in books.

Been reading "You Don't Love Me Yet" by Jonathan Lethem (Fortress of Solitude etc),
Quite enjoyable (mostly about 4 members of a rock band)

But about half way through, the previous 30 pages or so were repeated, replacing what should have come next. Its kind of annoying. Can't really take it back, cause I wrote "Dublin, August 2007" on the inside cover.

Boo on dodgy print runs....

Finished Mailer's Barbary Shore, it sort of goes off the boil towards then end.loads of crazy scenarios with long rants about socialism and a very unsatisfying climax.

have now started Buckowski's Ham on Rye

I'm currently reading Nancy Drew mysteries at the rate of one a night. They're not very well written but strangely compelling. I last read them when I was 5 or 6 so it's a bit nostalgic. Discovered them gathering dust in my parent's place last weekend and decided to rescue them.

I justify such simple reading to myself by glancing at the shelf which contains just some of the fascinating reading (Hagel, Aristotle, Kant and Hume to name but a few of the authors) that will take the next 9 months of my life.

I'm Reading 'My granny made me an anarchist' by Stuart Christie. Great stuff so far.

I'm also accumulating a massive amount of books to read once I finish this. Time to stop shopping on amazon...

been reading The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester for the last couple of nights but i decided to abandon it today as its very irritating

i took a couple of enid blyton and just william books from the parents place recently, i might have a go at one of these next, or i might not...

i also have a collection of interesting and worthy looking books to read although mine have been looking at me for years rather than months and i keep buying more books (mostly brian aldiss) which i'll probably end up reaching for before i go for the weightier ones, especially with my internet addiction the way it is.

i'm reading a book called the secret life of dust which is very enjoyable, and bedtime reading is a collection by eanna ni lamhna, she of mooney goes wild fame.

the edible woman by margaret atwood - odd to read after being told it reminded someone of my relationship to food, but anyway. toronto in the 1960s, gender roles and relationships and pregnancy/parenthood, identity, big metaphor about food and an aversion to it. liked it a lot.

five red herrings by dorothy l. sayers - yeah, me and more murder mysteries. i liked this one because it felt like a logic puzzle at times and it was interesting to see wimsey, the detective, more in the background (very big contrast as i'm reading clouds of witness right now and he's all over it). set in galloway in a community of painters and fishermen, lots about bikes and trains, someone dies, someone killed him, etc.

and i've been reading lots of h.p. lovecraft short stories, which i hadn't touched since i was about sixteen. fucking awesome (especially reading them in howling wind, alone by the sea). oddly, the inspiration to go back was perfume, and reading 'the music of erich zahn' while wearing the (perfect) perfume of the same name? exciting!
