It's a very short book, the usual readable Roth style. Variously comical and sad. The way he writes families is brilliant. It also seems to be a not very subtle satire on GW Bush-era America.

virgin suicides is a fantastic book. really lovely stuff. i heard middlesex was a bit of a mess though. i have it at home but haven't been too pushed to open it.What you think? Nobody writes teenagers better in my opinion

The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick. middling to good.
'The Invention of Solitude' by Paul Auster. The second half was sad but really interesting, and it's written in the first person. Just starting the second half now, it's more of a novel style and a little more obtuse.
