Today I'm debating even tweeting about 4th july in case its used against me in customs when i try and visit those people again.

I don't think I'll go to the US again any time soon unless Bernie wins and turns the place into an open socialist dreamland. I have two recent Iranian visas stamped in my passport so I no longer qualify for the visa waiver programme. That means more expense*, more planning in advance*, embassy interviews*, social media background checks*.

* I think

Ilhan Omar rules.
It's interesting when the best thing that can happen to your career in US politics is to have the President* personally attacking you.

It would be interesting if this joker ends up mobilizing leftists en mass, getting them out to vote. The alternative is him winning and the US turning into (more of) a third world shithole country I suppose.

He'll have the election rigged before it happens. I've been saying this for at least two years and you jokers are still talking like you are in a democracy

I suppose with the coming democratic election there's a potential big split coming in the Democratic party between the old and new guard, they'll have to see if their 30 years of bowing to capital will continue or if the younger members (& Sanders) are going to be the future. Pelosi is doing her best to hold it all together but something is clearly going to give.

At least that's how I see it, i'm prolly being over-simplistic but beating Trump is only half the battle unless you really believe he's a russian agent.

“Historians have a word for Germans who joined the Nazi party, not because they hated Jews, but because out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed.

That word is “Nazi.” Nobody cares about their motives anymore.

Things are getting scary here. I know it's cliche to talk about Nazism and so on, but things are genuinely very bad at the moment in the US.

I'm seeing what looks like almost everyone in DC keeping their heads down and not very subtly saying this guy is a lunatic. Then I see these floods of tourists coming for conferences? Talks? Gangs of them, all decked out in their MAGA hats. Male dominated, but often mixed.

Previously if you watched people, random punters, would have a go at the MAGA types. Now even that is fading away. People look at them like someone's walked shit into the building, subway, etc, but there's an acceptance now. Racism is a reasonable alternative, sluts are sluts, violence is not very hard to scratch away to find.

It's really disgusting. I'm starting to do weird things to try to not focus on it. I started playing chess obsessively. Now I'm learning this bizarre text editor called Vim and doing machine learning classes. We used to learn about these behaviours that animals would do when they were nervous. If a bird was nervous, and knew you were looking straight at it, it would compulsively "act natural" by cleaning its beak on a branch. I'm seeing this sort of thing happening all over, people aren't even surprised at the rape, child molestation, fraud, racism. It's just embarrassing now. We're kinda cleaning our beaks, hoping shit isn't going to get berserk. But there is no longer a trust that this is all going to just come right in the end.

The kind of racist hatred that used to be hidden away in backwaters like Mississippi and Alabama and Louisiana and practiced by the likes of David Duke is now part of our national conversation. It’s taken over our daily political life.

just another article I read after writing the above.

I dunno what to think any more. I don't trust my own opinions, I don't trust my mental health or perception of reality, I know about confirmation bias, but something happened in the last week.

There's a sort of critical mass of stupidity, Boris, Brexet, this Trump tool, the relentlessness of it is normal now. It's normal to be racist. It's normal that rich people rape kids.
