Campaign to save Ungdomshuset01 Mar 2005We have decided not to lean back and wait for some judge to decide wether we can stay or not. Its not their decision anyway since the case is political and shouldnt be delt with as a “normal” case between tennents and the owner. Its up to the politicians to fix this situation and make sure that the youth of Copenhagen has a space like Ungdomshuset.

Since we dont have great expectations to win the case anyway we have decided to take matters into our own hands.

Ungdomshuset has initiated a campaign called “Ungdomshuset stays” to try to win support and to create attention to our situation.

On our weekly housemeeting we have decided to follow a strategy that we call the ”3-layer-strategy”. To shortly explain what it is about; 3 different levels of fighting for our survival:

Layer 1: Negotiaton
We want, through negotiation with politicians and other influencial persons/organisations, to try to find a political solution to our situation and in the end to have the City Council of Copenhagen to buy back the house from the Christian sect Faderhuset.

Layer 2: Culturel and press offensive
We want to lead a more offensive presstrategy up untill the trial and open up more than we have done before. Besides that we want to work with a broader culturel horisont than usual by making bigger shows with danish/international artists who will support our cause and bring some attention our direction.
As part of this strategy we want friends within the cultureindustry and in the mediaworld to help us spreading information about our situation.

Layer 3: Activism and political struggle on streetlevel
At the same time as the two other layers we want to lead an offensive political struggle on streetlevel by organizing actions, demonstrations, happenings and other events to add political pressure. We also want to make our struggle for survival more visible in the streetpicture through postercampaigns, stickers flyers, streetart etc. Al campaign material will use following slogans:

* Ungdomshuset stays!
* 22 years of counterculture!
* Against cultural and political unification!
* For the right to alternatives!
* Solidarity with Christiania and Blitz!

To start of this campaign we have started a campaign office and its open everyday so that its allways possible to get a hold of us. In the office we will be working with information for the website, posters, flyers, organization of events, coordination with other political groups, making of pressreleases, petions etc.
Everyone can contribute with ideas and suggestions for the campaign.

Norwegian punks have squatted the danish embassy in protest ... Fucking legend.

Protest 23 and 24th of september in Copenhagen if anyone has the ability to make it. This is going to be mental.

There will of course be plenty of sleeping space and food etc provided for those who make it over.
