Oh no Terry. Sadly sums up how bland pop music was in 1989. A cover of a cover - Paul Anka wrote the original.
Distinctive slightly wonky 70's synths made Captain & Tenille's version. The song itself isn't anything remarkable.

Sorry. I meant Neil Sedaka - honest!
Thanks for correction.
Neil always seems like a nice jovial guy.
He makes my skin crawl :D
I heard Ronan Collins saying he went to a gig of his and after every single song, Neil went to the front of the stage to bask in an exaggerated and uncomfortably long standing ovation

Which I thought was hilarious

Anka's Teen Spirit cover was OK.
Love Cats was terrible though.
He left out the lines "Hand in hand is... I hate little mieces, How can we love someone as dumb as this?"

Worst Nirvana cover is still Tori Amos - SLTS (1992).
No irony, just an early version of the terrible mellow, OTT 'emotional' formula that is continually heard on adverts and films for years.

Not too off the wall as they were mates back in the day

Capturing the sound of every band of 15-year-old boys that ever played in their parent's garage
