Top 10 Albums of 2005 (1 Viewer)

The Wedding Present: Take Fountain - probably the best Wedding Present/Cinerama album since Seamonsters. still prefer a lot of the Peel session/KEXP versions though

The Kingsbuty Manx: The fast rise and fall of the south - great return to form after the slighty disappointing Aztec Discipline. some beautiful songs on here

The National: Alligator - gets better with every listen.

Teenage Fanclub: Man Made - some of their earlier stuff towers above Man Made but it's still got a lot of quality songwriting. It's all in my mind is especially good.

Decoration: Don't Disappoint me now - the odd clunky lyric aside, a smashing debut.

HMHB: Actung Bono: great title, great album. always good value

Sufjan Stevens: Illinois - too flippin' long. still a great effort.

Arcade Fire: Funeral - enough has been said of this one, I still like listening it anyway!

Six by Seven: Artists, Cannibals, Poets, Thieves - great swansong

Lou Barlow: Emoh - great effort from Lou, a real grower.

best reissue: Orange Juice: The Glasgow School (class)

1. Coil: The Ape Of Naples
2. Irr. App. (Ext.): Drone Works #10
3. Andrew Chalk: Fall In The Wake Of A Flawless Landscape
4. The Hafler Trio: Exactly As I Do
5. Nurse With Wound: Livin Fear Of James Last
6. The Wardrobe: Cups In The Cupboard
7. Andrew Liles and Darren Tate: Without Season
8. Coil: ...And The Ambulance Died In His Arms
9. Nurse With Wound: Shipwreck Radio / Gulls Just Wanna Have Fun
10. Arcade Fire: Funeral
11. Antony + The Johnsons: I Am A Bird Now

a late entry for me,just got the new Annihilation Time record. Fuck!!it's amazing. Black Flag and '70's rock influenced hardcore done right. Killer Pink Fairies cover too.

lots of stuff mentioned already: prospect hummer, feels, green cosmos, runners 4, tanglewood numbers, superwolf and funeral.

also

why?: elephant eyelash
dirty projectors: the getty address
orange juice: glasgow school
somadrone: fizzing away to a whisper
gamak: we are the way forward

probably loads more i can't think of right now.

Not many Irish albums mentioned in the thread - any recommendations?

I was thinking about this...

Best Irish releases I've heard from this year:

Trails - Trains derail
Betamax Format 7"
Fairlights - Scraps
Dark Room Notes E.P. (forget the name)
Michael Knight - Youth is wasted on the Young
(Retards) new album

Still haven't got the Stoat or GAMAK albums

Edit: The Lafaro E.P. is deadly

iron & wine and why? eps
sufjan
sleater-kinney
superwolf
m.i.a.
giveamanakick
13&God
bright eyes(i'm wide awake...)
supersystem

is that 10?just got the deerhoof.tis good but wouldn't make it in there as yet, must get the minus story one too the tunes i've heard are fantastic.

bit of a disappointing year otherwise, what with great bands like hot snakes, q and not u and hermie in tweed no longer with us
