Top 10 Albums of 2005 (4 Viewers)

Animal Collective "Feels"

Six Organs of Admittance "School of the Flower"

Windy and Carl "In the dream house/dedication to flea"

Worst thing I bought this year: Earth "Hex" - what a load of boring old arse.

whilst it had little impact,
beastie boys album beat the shit out of most hiphop/rap coming out these days..
and theyre getting old too.
but boy they can still rappp..

[edit]shit that was out last year!! whats the hits one called then?

i didn't get much at all this year.

got stoat, totally love it.

new deerhoof rulez

the go team album is great.

some of LCD soundsystem is good but some of it is pooh.

did the futureheads album come out this year? it's great

sufjan stevens sounds good from what i've heard.

and i've also been enjoying what i've heard of system of a down.

other than that i've been getting older GBV stuff. which is great. i had mag earwhig when it came out and i think someone borrowed it and didn't give it back, but anyway it went ary.

got it again and then another and another...

All? I'll have a one line description of every LP from this list you've actually listened to.
And Lefty can fuck off while he/she's at it.
Person that listed the paavoharju record: is it all good? I'd just d'loaded 2 songs from here and liked em.
Hermie: Runners Four should be in the shops almost a month now.
tsh tosh josh. it's music. it's more devisive than any war or government. it's pure evil. and it sounds awful.

now, girls aloud have a new album out, hi five.

Funeral Diner-The Underdark
Snowblood-Being and Becoming
Sunn o)))-Black 1
Lightning Bolt-Hypermagic Mountain
Gang Gang Dance-Gods Money
Earth-Hex (has grown on me after a million listens)
Jesu-jesu
Pelican-The fire in our throat will beckon the thaw
Thrones-A day late a dollar short
High on Fire-Blessed Black Wings (did that come out this year?)
Hair Police-Constantly Terrified
Wolf Eyes and Double Leopards-Bleeding Turbines 2
Khanate-Capture and Release
Venetian Snares-Rossz Csillag Allat
Double Leopards-A hole is true
Wolf Eyes-Deranged

Didnt realise there was so much good music this year until I wrote that out

really?

I went a bit crazy on the list front and came up with five of the buggers but for the top 10 I'd go for (in no particular order other than Sufjan's is the best):

1. Sufjan Stevens - Come on Feel The Illnoise
2. Bonnie Prince Billy & Matt Sweeney – Superwolf
3. M.I.A – Arular
4. Sigur Ros – Takk
5. Kate Bush – Aerial
6. Vashti Bunyan - Lookaftering
7. Télépopmusik – Angel Music
8. Kraftwerk - Minimum
9. Anthony & The Johnsons – I Am A Bird Now
10. Low - The Great Destroyer

Not many Irish albums mentioned in the thread - any recommendations?

I think the only 2005 albums I got were Damien Dempsey's "Shots", Michael Knight's, SOAD's and Saul Williams's (which I only got last night).
All really fucking good.

Got 1000 copies of Stoat's album too, but I don't suppose that really counts

I would like to add: Days of Mars by Delia Gonzalez and Gavin Russom. It could have been recorded in the 70s in Germany by Conny Planck. But it wasn't.

Also:
Christopher Bissonnette "Periphery" - ambient goodness on Kranky

Oooh wait a sec, got Kate Rusby's new one too - good, but not as good as, say, hourglass

So here's my top 5 for 2005 (in no particular order)

System of a Down - Mezmerize
Micheal Knight - Youth is Wasted on the Young
Damien Dempsey - Shots
Saul Williams
Kate Rusby - The Girl Who Couldn't Fly

hmmm ... it's kinda redundant when you've only bought 5 albums. Carry on carry on ...

Hi five me arse. Unless they've come up with something as good as Sound Of The Underground which was obviously genius.

And by they, I mean the shadowy backroom figures what make their tunes.

Here, Lefty. I got de-repped twice too. I hope one was from you.

I got too much to remember what was this year or not,but off the top of my head records by-Direct Control, the Regulations,Earth, thee Plague Of Gentlemen,Asva,Out Cold,SunnO))),Hard Skin,Hellacopters,Reigning Sound, and Fucked Up have all blown me away.
Then there's the reissues-Thrones,v/a-Love,Hate the '80's,Melvins,Saint Vitus,Trouble,Bastards,v/a-HHT box set,MC5 box set,Stooges..................

jeez, lad, you're acting like i've already kicked your arse on the pixel field.

add Sunn O)), Jesu, Deefhoof, Les Georges Leningrad to my list.. Mackle, have you heard Pelican's March Into The Sea EP? Fire in our throats.. is brilliant but the EP surpasses it on every level. The Justin Broadrick (Jesu guy) remix of it is the best twenty mins of music I've heard all year.
