Top 10 Albums of 2005 (2 Viewers)

I'd be agreeing with Dudley's selection except for Genghis Tron, who i don't know, and adding:
Dungen - Ta Det Lungt
Songs For Nao comp
Low - Great Destroyer
and the reissue of Chuck & Mary Perrin's Life Is A Stream

Also, the Deerhoof LP would go on top cos I think it's only deadly.

a good year

these spring to mind and there's more

Decoration - Don't Disappoint Me Now

LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
Malcolm Middleton - Into The Woods
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Wedding Present - Take Fountain

LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem
mercury rev - the secret migration
theivery corporation - cosmic game

Malcolm Middleton - Into The Woods
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Wedding Present - Take Fountain
Autechre - Untilted
Broadcast - Tender Buttons

Merz - 'Loveheart' is the best thing I've heard from this year. Have been too broke and too busy with other things to be able to rack up ten. Most other stuff has been artists or albums from past years I have never got around to listening to before this year. The Replacements 'Tim', Rufus Wainwright 'Want Two', Genesis 'Selling England By The Pound', P.I.L. 'Metal Box'.

it was one of my best years for getting off my ass and going to gigs but probably my most lacklustre year for buying new stuff.
I was all about the hype or the return this year.
picked up:

The Chalets- Check In
Weezer- Make Believe
Arcade Fire - Funeral
dEUS - Pocket Revolution
Goodtime John-'ol death whisper
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Eagles of Death Metal
Brendan Benson - Alternative to Love
Bright Eyes - I'm wide awake it's morning/Digital Ash,Digital Urn
Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabyes to Paralyse

From years ago, this year i got into

Les Savy Fav - Rome
Modest Mouse pre-"Good News.." albums
Interpol
Built to Spill
Ted Leo and the pharmacists

Mates of state? had the best song i heard this year. No idea of the name

emm, the best so far would be :

Arcade Fire - Funeral
Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain
(they really are getting better with every album)
The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza - s/t
(BELIEVE THE HYPE, for fans of Dillinger Escape Plan, Meshuggah & Converge)
Death From Above 1979 - You're A Woman I'm A Machine
(this was 2005 wasn't it?)
Sufjan Stevens - Come on, feel the Illinoise
Antony And The Johnsons - I am a bird now
Pelican - March Into The Sea EP
(far, far better than The Fire In Our Throats..)
The Locust - Safety Second Body Last

theres prob more though

Dunno, but there was a good interview with DCB on pitchfork a while back...

I didn't think it was a great year for the albums. The only ones I'd unreservedly put on a bestoflist are Feels, Illinois and I am a Bird Now. The Foxydigitalis Gold Leaf Branches compilation is ace too, but I've only had it for a week...Other things that made me transiently happy are Tanglewood Numbers and L'Enfant Assassin des Mouches (reissue). LCD Soundsystem and Cripple Crow got uninteresting rather quickly.

Actually, I haven't bought much new music this year.

off the top of my head sunn o))) - 'black one' and angels of light 'sings other people' are the only two to have ruhlly blown me aahway

In no particular order and displaying a very narrow musical palate:

1. Kate Bush - Aerial
2. Smog - A river ain't too much to love
3. Silver Jews - Tanglewood numbers
4. Antony and the Johnsons - I am a bird now
5. Caribou - The Milk of Human Kindness
6. Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise
7. Devendra Banhart - Rejoicing in the hands/Cripple Crow
8. The Books - Lost and safe
9. Matt Sweeney & Bonnie P Billy - Superwolf
10. Tom Vek - We have sound

These records blew me away in 2005

1. Dictom - Snowy Room EP
2. The Amazing Stairs - Highest
3. Grogan Burrphlast - Head Above Water
4. Sandra Glocker - Doorbells
5. Cork - Sundays Well
6. The Splitz - Raised On Cherries
7. Bevinda Bujweenah - Materinty Leave
8. Kormac Sinnott - Brew 39
9. Visa - Remove These Edges First
10. Reg Grundy - Home James

in no particular order some of my faves from the past year
gang gang dance-gods money
animal collective-feels
paavoharju-Yhä Hämärää
the books-lost and safe
akron/family-s/t
angels of light-sing other people
mf doom-live from planet x
grizzly bear-horn of plenty
cocorosie-noahs ark
vashti bunyan-lookaftering
jesu-s/t
most of the ones i thought of initially where released in 2004. this year has gone by fast

Gang Gang Dance - God's Money
Chinese Stars - A Rare Sensation
The Fall - Fall Heads Roll
Angels Of Light & Akron/Family - st / Angels of Light - ...Sings Other People
Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - The Doldrums
Les Georges Leningrad - Sur les Traces de Black Eskimo

Did Anal Cunt Release a new album this year or is Seth still in Cripple School hiding from the authorities who want him on drug charges?

he's now called Fergus Gystraad and released 'come fill my flowing bowels' in september. only 20 copies pressed i heard.

Had a bit of a think and albums I got that came out in 2005
Weezer - Make Believe
Wedding Present - Take Fountain
System Of A Down - Mezmerize
King's X - Orge Tones
Sloan - A Sides win
Lou Barlow - Emoh
They Might Be Giants - Here come the ABCs
Slipknot - Live thing
Belle & Sebastian - Push Barman....
Micheal Knight - Youth Is wasted on the young

I think that's it. Best of these is probably the Weezer one.

However I bought loads of older stuff this year. The best of which is probably Bad Reputation!
