I would say no. More of a challenge. Defeats the purpose of choosing a year if you can do a song from ten years earlier just because it was released in some form in 79.

I had a tough time choosing one because there were so many good songs from bands. I mean supertramp, cheap trick, billy joel, ELO..... you should be very thankful I didn't choose some of those.

I agree...I'd prefer some sort of commonality between all our covers.

A year is not exactly a Theme...needs to be narrowed down. eg any record released by Motown in 1979, any english record in 1979, etc


Back to picking a specific Artist next month, I reckon.

Maybe 1979 is not as well theme defined as a band name but its still a frickin challenge...alot of excellent tunes..its an interesting change of tack and i think gives more scope for you to pick a song you never liked or one you always wished you wrote...

I picked a very silly tune rather than butcher, "I want you to want me" which is what I really wanted to do. God I love Cheap Trick. Joe Jackson's, is she really going out with him, would have been good too. Someone one do these....please.

Hmmm....I see The Undertones released their eponymous album in 1979 which included "Teenage Kicks", so what better opportunity to flaunt a version I did (for that Today FM thingy last year)...
