Hi from Risc.

Here are the details of three upcoming events, followed by some more information about other things.

The three upcoming events:

Red Bridge launch gig 1:

· Betamax Format
· Thread Pulls
· E+S=B.

Lower Deck, Portobello, Dublin. Friday 11th February 2005, 9pm. €8. (This is the same night as the Redneck Manifesto play in Whelans. Remember, you can leave that gig and still make it down for most of this one! And it’s only down the road.)

Red Bridge launch gig 2:

· Piratio
· The Last Sound
· Herv

Ard Bia, above Neachtain's, Galway City. Saturday 12th February 2005, 11pm. Free!

Red Bridge launch gig 3:

· Northstation
· Piratio
· FancyGoods

Lazybird, International Bar, Dublin. Sunday 13th February 2005, 9pm. €5.

These three gigs are to launch the new Risc compilation, Red Bridge (risc007), 17 tracks of Irish independent music in a heavy cardstock metallic-printed cover, available in shops for around €11 on February 12th. Featuring:

· Agitated Radio Pilot
· Amoebazoid
· Betamax Format
· Bird on Wire & Dave Nuremberg
· E+S=B
· FancyGoods
· Herv
· Lakker
· The Last Sound
· Maersk
· Medea
· Miriam Ingram
· Northstation
· Piratio
· Rollers/Sparkers
· Thread Pulls
· Tremors

The other things:

Zod night:

· Curtis Chip
· Binray
· Viberaider
· Herv
· Thalamus

Saturday, February 19th, Belvedere, Great Denmark Street (off Parnell Sq.), 10pm, €12.

Risc and The Alphabet Set present the first visit to Dublin of Milwaukee-based avant-break-manglers Zod Records. For one night only these behemoths of the American broken-beat scene
hit our fair city with their jaw-dropping percussive chicanery. This is the final date of their 2005 European Tour to promote new releases by Curtis Chip, Emotional Joystick, and Viberaider. Risc Record’s own Herv and The Alphabet Set’s Thalamus provide support on the night.

The new single by Betamax Format:

The new single by Betamax Format, ‘XXX Robot’/’Raus! Raus!’ will be out on the 16th of February. The band will be touring around Ireland with the Wedding Present after the release of the single. The early-80's-synth-soundtrack-inspired new wave knife fight of Betamax Format will kill us all. Dead.

About Risc:

Risc is an independent record label based in Dublin, which exists to support and document new independent music in Ireland, and has put out five previous releases, which have garnered much praise from the likes of The Wire magazine, The Irish Times, Foggy Notions and others. The label has released music by artists and bands including Herv, Northstation, Maersk and Embers. Risc Records was previously Compactrisc records, and changed name in December 2004.

nice wan, I'll do that. it's a pretty nice spot in any case..

just got word that there will indeed be booze. so all you galway people, come along for the choons and drink yourself stupid once you get there. and it's free, so really, you have no excuse not to go.

If i were to go to the Galway show, do you think the restraunt people would let me eat my coleslaw fries in peace?

If you're gonna go to the Galway show - come down on Friday night and see Decal and Americhord both live in Monroes too.

more bits and bobs...

  • the friday and sunday gigs will be archived in digital video ones and zeros by plastic donkey, for possible future release by them or us or both...
  • the galway gig might also be getting videoed, we're working it out at the moment.
  • the lafaro/boxes gig is on the same night as the friday night gig, which is a bit of a bummer, but please bear in mind that - as with the rednecks in whelans - you'll be able to come on down once it's over and see some of the lower deck one.
  • galway people should definitely go to see decal/americhord on the friday night (and, obviously, piratio/herv/the last sound on saturday). might be the last time they'll be playing in galway for a while, too...
  • the lazybird gig on sunday will have visuals, so you can all have something to look at.
