I agree with this.
me too. I felt his qustions of the guy who was about to be re housed was a bit tabloid. If louis was honest he would have just asked him to go into the grusome details of his crime because it are those type of details that would have upped the ratings for this. I as a member of the public and a viewer did not want to know the details of what he had done/
Also , that verbal abuse incident , give me a fucking break.

i really haven't been into the theroux documentaries from the last couple of years, they've been a dissappointing as i thought "weird weekends" was superb. however this one was interesting. what a very strange place.

i'm almost certain a hell of a lot of footage was left out (there was an obvious edit during the final interview with the guy who had been castrated), i suspect explicit sexual details and situations where the paedophiles clearly enjoyed or got exciting talk about them. theroux was clearly disturbed by encounters and information that were edited out of what we say. i suspect alot of the gruesome details were gone into, but not broadcast, so i don't think it's about ratings. i mean these are people who have committed the most appalling kinds of crimes, and its such a thorny issue : obviously the protection of children is a paramount concern in this culture. it's probably the most pressing social and cultural issue at the moment, and alot of that is down to the fact that people - quite reasonably- really dont want to have to think about something so horrendous.

i'm very ambivalent as regards whether documentary should choose to go into detail or not. i remember being left feeling horrified and disturbed when i saw the bbc's "the hunt for britain's paedophiles" when it was on tv a few years ago, as they broadcast cropped censored stills from child pornography. as an aside, i would be very interested to hear more how the therapists deal with exposure to those sorts of crimes.

the reality of it is very difficult material to take, but on the other hand knee-jerk reactions of horror lead to situations like the paulsgrove riots (after sarah payne) and ludicrous circumstances like a pediatrician's office getting attacked by a mob who misunderstood what the word meant, or a photographer not allowed to include a photo of her kids playing on a beach in an exhibition. somethings clearly askew in a culture when that sort of thing happens alongside the sexualisation of often very young girls in popular culture and the fact the huge demand for porn which claims to feature "barely legal teens" and schoolgirls.

so back to theroux, it was interesting, thought proking and frustrating. i certainly didn't find it sensationalistic.
that woman was horrible, to be honest, whenever i hear that very american way of talking where everything seems to in the language of therapy and the stilted way feelings are being coldly dissected - "this is how you are making me feel" etc - i get a bit irritated.

i didn't believe that guy who said he was only a paedophile twice in his life, when he commited his crimes only. i really didn't buy that at all.

i did find the adams family bit and the date rapist making drinks amusing.

it was far from his best. with regards to his other works, the "hypnotism" one from "weird weekends" was one of the funniest things i have seen, and the "porn" and "nazis" ones were the most interesting. i think his most depressing ones were the ones where he meets people. "the hamiltons" was amazing, watching that couple constantly making the worst possible decisions was remarkably infuritating. a shame the one with ike turner never got made.

finally, i dont think his "gormless persona" is an act, and i dont think he's gormless, as far as i can see it he just asks the simplest questions possible and tries to be as unconfrontational as he can be while being honest.

she was a fucking arsehole! the fucking shite these people talk. my god. if i opened the lament configuration from hellraiser she would jump out and melt my head for eternity with her psycho babble. like when youre being trained to work in a call centre. gah!

as for mr touchy twice, i would shoot him if he went near any of my mates kids. fuckin paedo. lol. watching that guy made me want to read the sun.

They could all get together and write a Nirvana inspired angsty pop song.

Ah no, the whole thing is fucked

But seriously, imagine the bad vibes you'd be getting if you drove over that bridge, wohh
