Beautiful.

i've heard that the coillte sale is a 'done deal' and can't be stopped. we'll probably find out that it was rushed through by FF in the dying days of the FF regime.

I really hope not, wouldn't surprise me though.surely the new government would be able to put a halt to it if so?(assuming the will is there)
coillte officially belongs to the ministers for agriculture and finance, so a sale would need both their signatures. i dunno, the notion that they did a secret deal with bertie, without letting the tender to value coillte even complete, and without public consultation on it, would be both baffling but also with precedent. these guys have been shuffling billions around with impunity for years, so a sale worth less than a billion would probably be small beer to them.
there'd be tribunals up the wazoo if the government sold such an asset in secret, without inviting other expressions of interest, to a former taoiseach's company.

the new government might welcome the sale - they could easily hide behind an 'it's legally binding' argument, so benefitting from the cash injection but letting FF take the flak.

can't believe how difficult it is to find anything about this in the main media outlets. well, that's a lie, i can easily believe it. i thought it was sound of Glen to bring it up on the Late Late last night. Bronagh Gallagher talks LOUDLY.

this probably isnt worth the bandwidth it's saved on, but im clinging on to it anyway

just scanning through the fg programme for government now,one mention of forestry so far

"In order to ensure that public enterprise plays a full role in Ireland’s economic recovery, we will create a holding company to manage the state’s holdings of the semi-states, and to coordinate investment in key priority areas identified by the Government, including energy, water and forestry."

sounds ok so far, still only a quarter way through though, there may be more....

"To accelerate the development of Ireland’s forestry and bioenergies,
NewERA will merge together Bord na Mona and Coillte to create a new State
company called BioEnergy Ireland to become a global leader in the commercialisation of next
generation bio-energy technologies, including an annual 14,700 hectare afforestation
programme."

well, that seems to be all of it (it was a very cursory scan through so i may have missed some),there was a reference to selling state assets just below the last quoted piece,i will be emailing two local fg td's later on a different matter so will add the question of coillte to the email.

i reckon the moriarty report will do no harm either; it'll (hopefully) ensure the government have to do everything completely above board. one can hope.

TIN FOIL HAT UPDATE

I was thinking while driving the other day (i fucking love oil so i do) that the idea here would be to get the wood resources out of our hands so the oil lads that ride bertie twice a week can have more of a monopoly on our fair island, as regards home heating.
