Rented a polestar for a few days in Scotland recently. Great car

It’s some manner of division/subsidiary of Volvo. A relative worked for polestar for a while and they were VERY keen not to be associated with Volvo.

The whole auto industry sub brand thing is a huge window into our petty perceptions.
My car is a Citroen that's made my Toyota that costs less than a Toyota because of what people believe even though it's the same car from the same factory.
UTM has a Skoda that costs less than a VW that is made in the VW factory in essentially a golf with Skoda written on it.

Millions of Euro markup because perceptions add eh, value? Value is the wrong word..the surrounding mythology is shown in the price. We are silly creatures.

the brand seat is going to be dumped; they're pivoting to the cupra brand. seat sat alongside skoda (and skoda have been slowly becoming more premium in price over the years).

They no longer have anything to do with them.
They were a sub brand but all they took is a minor design influence.
Safety and build quality of polestar is not as good as Volvo

One way to look at it.
If you buy a polestar is it a Volvo with different bling, or is it 100% a different chassis, drive train and factory.

Because like if you were buying a Volvo in recent years ( @Deadmanposting ) you are largely buying a ford engineered thing*

*Then of course ford subbed out engine design to mitsubishi at times....

Polestar is a completely different to Volvo.
They just had their name on the company for a while (to lend some credibility presumably).
Think they sold up their last few shares in February. It’s not by Volvo.

It was a Volvo in the same way a Mini Cooper is a bmw

They are Chinese since the global finacial crisis

But everything I've read says that the Chinese let the Swedes cook
