The Gloaming (1 Viewer)

Actually fuck it, depends on definitions but what about Damien Dempsey? It wasn't a generation ago I was at gigs of his packed to the rafters with young Irish people. And apart from TG Lurgan versions of international pop songs, has any Irish language music ever been that popular in Ireland outside its own circle?

What about Celtic Thunder/Celtic Woman? They've sold more records than the rest of the Irish music industry put together in recent years.
What about Luke Kelly's ghost?
What about Here's to you Ronnie Drew?

what about riverdance?

I think Damien Dempsey is a fair point. He seemed to be popular with a whole range of groups of people.

In the venn diagram of Irish music audiences I don't think Celtic Thunder, the Spook, Kila, The Corrs and Riverdance are all in the same circle but it seems like The Gloaming could be a crossover for all of them.

But maybe you're right and it's just Cim Jarroll hype for hipsters.

you do not

however, you do win an 'i spotted jimmy hill' pencil, if you send a self-addressed envelope with a LARGE LETTER STAMP to: I've Spotted Jimmy Hill, Viz Comic, PO Box 841, Whitley Bay, NE26 9EQ.
