i've never heard the name buffy used anywhere except telly.
only realised a few years ago that barry is short for finbar; or it started out that way anyway.
Jack is short for John - another odd one. A former colleague has two sons called Sean and Jack. I said "Oh that's the same name," and he got real mad because "Everybody says that and they're clearly different names." I agreed of course but also thought "He's mad because deep down he knows it's true and is mad at himself." heh heh
Is this why some countries call the the Jacks the John?
au contraire, only if there are two jacks side by side...
(I love how this thread has veered radically off course)
Only lizard people carry both forms of the name simultaneously- it’s a dead giveawayau contraire,
Qanon people are very into their Jack and John Kennedys.

Like me? My first name is John and my initials spell Jack.Only lizard people carry both forms of the name simultaneously- it’s a dead giveaway
My (now dead) aunt Peg was really called Margaret. Mrs. egg_'s (alive) aunt Nancy is really called Ann

Oh?I myself am a John
In the Marian year in the 50s lots of boys ended up with Mary as a second name - two of my uncles - Michael Mary and dinny MaryMy father says there was a boy called Mary in his class in school
I have a 4 year old nephew called John, so yeah it still happensDo people still call their kids John or Mary? I never notice it any more. I have two uncle johns and two aunt Marys and lots of cousins also called John and Mary. I myself am a John but known generally by one of its variants.
