‘Ornette Coleman playing on Soft Machine's Fourth in hell"... Talibam!'s brand of shitstorm skronk is grounded in more intelligent thought and dynamic group exchange than many of the more hyped transmissions from the contemporary American 'noise' underground." - Tiny Mix Tapes Dot Com
"...Agro-improv troupe Talibam! will surely harsh your mellow. A cross between noise-rock, free-jazz and unabashed fuckeduppedness, Talibam! is audio terrorism at its most playful. Led by drummer Kevin Shea and the hideous gurgles of what might be Speak & Spells (Matt Mottel, synth) suffocating under distortion pedals (Ed Bear, feedbacksaphone)." - Chris Weingarten, Village Voice
"...spastic, impossibly octopoidal drum splatter is all over this disc, a stuttering spastic free jazz soundscape dense and impenetrable. Above this tangled percussive squall, the synth and the sax do battle. And this is a serious fucking knock down drag out battle to the death. The synth seems to come out on top turning what could have been more of a free jazz record into a seriously fucked up freenoise record.
Mottel is like Keith Emerson on a serious PCP bender, spitting out thick snarling sheets of synth buzz, spraying it like machine gun fire, melodies are tangled and complicated little knots hurled into the fray like cannonballs made out of steel string and roof nails. The sax is all over the place, adding tonal color, mad squawking, chittering chirps and deep fuzzy moans, this is a massive chaotic free for all." Aquarius Records
"The music matches the mania of the packaging perfectly as the trio let loose a... blast of sonic sludge that gleefully destroys everything in it's path, as if on a mission." - Edwin Pouncey, The Wire
Kevin Shea's drumming and stage gymnastics have been gazed at with wide wonder through his membership in bands like Storm & Stress (Touch & Go), Coptic Light (No Quarter), and People (I and Ear). Matt Mottel has been hanging around NYC clubs since he was 16, and dropping electric mind bombs with his synthesizer in diverse projects including Shadowmaps and syntony. (2) Ed Bear plays the baritone saxophone like Ron Asheton, and lives in his girlfriend's dorm room at Bard College.
