LAZYBIRD
Sunday, 9pm 'til closing
International Bar (upstairs), Wicklow Street, Dublin 2
____________________________________________
This Sunday, we have a healthy heaping of dubstep and drum'n'bass with a live performance from UK producer BASS CLEF and some DJing from Bassbin's DON ROSCO. More information, you ask? Here you are:
BASS CLEF
Hackney native Ralph Cumbers began his musical career several years ago as RLF, putting out releases on Bristol labels Hombre and Sink & Stove, and on XL-offshoot Rex. But about a year ago, he locked himself in his studio and started work on his debut album under the Bass Clef moniker, A Smile Is a Curve That Straightens Most Things. Unlike his old work, which was very firmly in the dancey electronica mould, the new release hooks its wagon to the current craze for all things dubby, but wears the influences of old-school producers like Adrian Sherwood and the Mad Professor on its sleeve. Also a bit retro is the fact that he's an analogue fiend: a good chunk of his sound is due to an old cassette four-track, vintage synths, valve compressors and theremins, not to mention occasional trombone and, yes, cowbell.
A Smile Is a Curve That Straightens Most Things is out now on Blank Tapes. Boomkat seems to like it:

And you can read more about the album, and Ralph, on his blogsite:
http://bass-clef.blogspot.com
And his myspace page:
http://www.myspace.com/bassclefbass
And playing a few records alongside Bass Clef on the night will be Bassbin's Don Rosco, who's been DJing and producing drum'n'bass since prehistoric times. (He's also known to be partial to a bit of drone and space rock as well.) So if you're in the mood for some serious bowel-loosening low frequency rumble this Sunday, it seems obvious to us where you should be. Doors at 9(ish), only 5 euro in.
