Does anyone know the answers to the following questions? These are fairly general.

If you want to press CD copies, does it make sense to separate the creation of the cover from that of the CD? I know that CD pressing places like Trend do both, but is it cheaper to do it elsewhere?

What about specialist cases, like a cardboard gatefold cover rather than a jewel case? (I prefer these myself) Or a simple stiff envelope-style cover? Or what about if you want a different kind of paper, like thick grainy paper or tracing paper or something. Would a CD pressing factory do that for you, or would you have to go to a specialist printer? And if so, what would be the difference in price?

We're pressing our album soon, so I need to have an idea about all this.

If I was going to get a plain simple Jewl Case feature done I'd go with whoever is manufacturing the CD (Trend par exampla), the main reasons are threefold

1) You only have to deal with on company

2) they will fold the booklets, put them in the case, put the CD's in... there is a lot ot be said for this

3) The print on the disc willl be done in the same place as the cover, less chance of variation in quality

I never worked out the price difference between going to Trend for everything, or getting a seperate printer in, but I can really recomend Trend, the take a lot of care with their artwork and our lovely to deal with.

I've never heard of them doing special packaging jobs, maybe they do Digi packs ( I hope so!) but I'd imagine for anything more elaborate you'd want to go with a seperate printer.

hmm, yeah we went with Trend before and they were fine, I just want to explore all options.
